Introducing IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar in Platinum and Portugieser Automatic Watch

This year, 2018, International Watch Company or IWC Short celebrates its 150th anniversary and, for this reason, has launched a series of birthday models (see here our IWC section) and a new pilot clock chronograph with colored markers and hands ( vintage style) and black ceramic watch "Laureus Edition" Pilot's Watch Mark XVIII. And while the whole year will be devoted to the 150th anniversary, the brand based in Schaffhausen adds more novelties to the collection. There is a new version of the perpetual Portugieser calendar in platinum and an automatic version in Portugieser steel, which looks exactly like the oldest platinum version of this watch.

Three years ago, IWC introduced a new engine for its perpetual Portugieser calendar, which has been enhanced with a double spring barrel, ceramic ball bearings and a solid gold self-winding rotor. On the dial side, the beloved moon phase indicator "double moon" came back (the first edition of this QP came with a double moon phase) and was now surrounded by a "starry night". Like most of the platinum editions of the Portugieser collection, it features a silver dial and rhodium-plated Arabic numerals and needles for the indexes, resulting in a rather monochromatic look. A clean and very discreet appearance, despite its large size of 44.2 mm in diameter and 14.9 mm in height. The Portugieser Perpetual board will have a selling price of around 50,000 euros.

The second new model introduced by IWC is a new version of the Portugieser Automatic Stainless Steel (with reference IW500712). Nothing new in terms of technology, or even design, except for one factor: needle and hour markers (Arabic numerals) are rhodium-plated. Stop the presses! Even though you might think that's not good news, I was jumping for joy and being shocked. Do you want to know why?

The silver dial and the rhodium-plated hands are usually reserved for the platinum versions of the Portugieser collection. The automatic Portugieser Platinum version, still with its iconic dial reserve and seven-day design power, came as a limited edition of 250 pieces (in 2000) and later in a limited edition of 500 pieces. Although these are only available on the second hand market for approx. EUR 20k, now you can buy a stainless steel version that looks exactly. I'm not able to speak on behalf of the 750 people who have the platinum version, but I can imagine they are not jumping for joy ...

Again, nothing new in terms of technology, design or anything, it's the same (updated) automatic Portugieser that was launched in 2015. The main difference is that the dial version of money now comes with hour markers and markers bathed in rhodium. With this combination of discreet look, which is probably the most interesting at this time Automatic Portugieser.

The Hublot F1 King Power Austin Limited Edition Watch

Not to be outdone by Audemars Piguet and their claims to Formula 1 racing, Hublot, the official watch brand of F1, has announced the F1 King Power Austin as a tribute to the United States Grand Prix which was held in Austin, Texas this past weekend. Limited to just 250 units, this titanium cased chronograph boasts a carbon and titanium bezel which has been styled to look like a cross-drilled  performance brake rotor. Measuring 48mm across, the F1 King Power Austin is powered by the HUB4100 automatic chronograph movement which has a power reserve of 42 hours and offers a 30 minute chronograph, sub seconds and a date display.
